Child Stars Gone Bad


From early fame to behind bars, child stars like Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears have had their rough patches.
While some managed to clean up their act, others like '80s teen idol Corey Haim unfortunately let fame get the best of them. Click through to see which of our favorite child stars got busted and spiraled out of control.

Justin Bieber


The young singer was arrested in 2014 on suspicion of DUI and drag racing. That same year, he was charged with misdemeanor vandalism after allegedly egging his neighbor's home.


Amanda Bynes


In 2013, the former Nickelodeon star spent six months in rehab following a 5150 involuntary psychiatric hold after a stretch of erratic behavior. By 2014, the actress had been arrested for her second DUI and was placed on another psychiatric hold after accusing her father of sexual abuse on Twitter.


Britney Spears


The Queen of Pop had a major meltdown in 2007, after shaving her head, performing an uncomfortably dazed MTV Music Video Awards performance, and attacking a photographer, the star sought treatment and her money was placed in a conservatorship controlled by her father. Four years after her psychological break, the star was back in control with new album Femme Fatale.


Aaron Carter


In 2008, Carter was busted in Texas with at least two ounces of marijuana. Following the arrest, Carter's management released in a statement: "He sincerely regrets any embarrassment this caused to his family, friends and fans."



Shia LaBeouf


After a period of odd behavior (LaBeouf attended the Nymphomaniac premiere with a paper bag over his head in 2014), the former Even Stevens star was arrested later that year and charged with harassment, disorderly conduct, and criminal trespassing after disrupting a performance of Cabaret on Broadway.



Drew Barrymore


After gaining fame at a young age in E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Barrymore started smoking at 9, drinking at 11, and started doing cocaine by the time she was 13. Barrymore entered rehab at age 13 only to try to commit suicide by age 14 and have to check into a facility again. Since her teen years, Barrymore's turned her life around and is now one of Hollywood's leading ladies and is mom to two daughters.



Macaulay Culkin


The Home Alone star was arrested for marijuana possession in 2004. After appearing in court the following year, the actor also pleaded guilty to charges of having medication without a prescription.



Corey Haim


The '80s teen idol — who once admitted to taking 85 Valium pills a day — died of an apparent drug overdose at age 38 in March 2010.



Dana Plato


In 1991, the Diff'rent Strokes star tried to rob a video store at gunpoint. A year later, she was arrested for forging a Valium prescription. In 1999, at age 34, she died



Lindsay Lohan


The Parent Trap star was arrested for drunk driving twice and cocaine possession and has been to rehab six times since. "I tried to mask my problems with alcohol, cocaine and mind-altering substances," she's said.



Brian Bonsall


The former Family Ties actor was arrested in 2007 after allegedly beating up his then-girlfriend. In 2009, the actor was arrested again and pleaded guilty to repeatedly hitting a friend in the head with a broken wooden stool. Following the arrest, the actor was arrested again in February 2010 for marijuana possession, which was a violation of his then-bond.



Jaimee Foxworth


After leaving Family Matters, she began abusing drugs and alcohol — and supported her habit by starring in porn flicks by the age of 19. In 2008, she received help on VH1's Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew. In an interview with Oprah in 2014, Foxworth admitted she got sober when she got pregnant with her son. "I made a prayer to god if you give me the healthiest son, I'll stop," she said.



Gary Coleman


The Diff'rent Strokes star has been charged with disorderly conduct numerous times — and was charged with assault after punching a bus driver in 1998. In January 2010, he was arrested on a domestic violence assault warrant in Utah and spent a night behind bars. Coleman died later that year after suffering a brain hemorrhage at the age of 42.



Mackenzie Phillips


The former star of '70s and '80s sitcom One Day at a Time — who has a long history of substance-abuse problems — admitted in 2009 that she had a 10-year-long consensual sexual relationship with her father, musician John Phillips.



Jodie Sweetin


The Full House alum began using drugs because she was "bored." In 2009, she penned a memoir called unSweetined detailing her drug and alcohol addictions, and admitted to a two-day meth, cocaine, and ecstasy bender.


Corey Feldman


The '80s teen idol was addicted to heroin, cocaine, and sex. Feldman claims he has been sober for more than a decade.



Tatum O'Neal


The Paper Moon Oscar winner, who has a long history of substance-abuse problems, was busted for buying crack in 2008. "There's no excuse for what I did," said O'Neal, who spend two half-day sessions in a drug treatment program following her arrest


Leif Garrett


In February 2010, the former teen idol — who has been battling drugs for more than a decade — was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.



Danielle Fishel


In 2007, the actress (a.k.a. Topanga from Boy Meets World) was charged with drunk driving.



Haley Joel Osment


In 2006, the Sixth Sense star was charged with three misdemeanors including driving under the influence. He was later ordered to complete 60 hours of alcohol rehab.



Jeremy Jackson


In 2005, the Baywatch alum was arrested after setting up a home meth lab. After enduring a long stint in rehab, Jackson claims to be sober ever since.
